Cellulose is a natural substance found in the cell walls of plants. It is the building block that provides plant strength and structure. Wood and cotton are common sources of cellulose. This substance, which has been used for centuries in various industrial applications, is distinguished by its strength and flexibility. This makes cellulose an attractive material for a variety of productions. As cellulose is a sustainable raw material, interest in this substance is growing rapidly.

From plant to pulp

To use cellulose, it is often processed into pulp. This pulp can be extracted directly from wood or cotton, also called Virgin Pulp, or from recycled materials such as waste paper. Virgin Pulp has the advantage that it has not undergone any chemical treatments, keeping it strong and pure. In contrast, recycled pulp uses chemical processes to make the material usable again. Although recycled pulp is more durable than Virgin pulp, the quality of the cellulose can deteriorate after several recycling processes. This makes recycled pulp less suitable for applications where strength and hygiene are of great importance.

Why cellulose is becoming increasingly important

Cellulose is a renewable raw material. It is fully biodegradable and can be recycled without leaving any harmful residues. This makes cellulose an alternative to monoMaterials such as polypropylene. Cellulose offers an excellent solution for companies and consumers who are more conscious of their carbon footprint.

The versatility of cellulose in packaging materials

Due to the unique properties of cellulose, it can be used in many different ways. Especially in packaging materials, cellulose is increasingly used. An example is the Molded fiber technology, where cellulose It is processed into Light, sturdy packaging. Molded Fiber is sturdy and flexible enough to adapt to different shapes and sizes. This makes cellulose an ideal base material for packaging indoor various sectors.

Cellulose in food packaging

Virgin Pulp is mainly used for food packaging because of its hygienic properties. This material provides the necessary strength and purity to keep food safe. When packaging needs to be moisture- or grease-resistant, a barrier can be added. This barrier ensures that the packaging resists leaks or loss of flavour, while remaining biodegradable and recyclable. This minimises environmental impact without compromising functionality.

Cellulose as a sustainable alternative

Cellulose is much more than just a natural building block from plants; it is a versatile and sustainable material that is increasingly used as an alternative to polluting raw materials. In the packaging industry in particular, cellulose is playing an increasingly important role. Thanks to its environmentally-friendly properties and versatility, cellulose plays an indispensable role in the transition to a more sustainable future.
